How Can You Monetize Your Expertise

It's quite easy, like 1-2-3!

  1. Create your expert content and manage it, enhancing it regularly. Netcipia's wikis and blogs allow you to organize and maintain your content.
  2. Define one or more revenue models to monetize your content. Three models are currently possible: Time-based subscription, limited time access and pay per page access.
  3. Invite members to your online community. We recommend that you set up a free site, and paying members get access to the premium areas of your site (spaces within your place or other places linked to your main place).
Netcipia provides everything free, at no charge, and without any Ads, although you are free to put ads on your site should you wish to generate Ads-based revenue. Netcipia's business model is to manage each transaction using our internal systems and collect a percentage of the transaction. Our philosopy is to provide you with the tools and infrastructure you need to help you make your online business successful - and to share in your success by taking a fee on each transaction. At Netcipia, we firmly believe that it's important to allow you to build your site and your user community free of charge, and only once you start making money, do we ask to share in some of your success. We believe this is the spirit of a true win-win partnership. To see a table explaining our transaction fees, please click here.

Creating Your Content

To create your content, we provide you one of the most powerful wiki environments in existence today. In addition, our wiki embeds a blog functionality. Your site (which we call a Place in Netcipia's jargon) is a wiki that you can use to collaborate with others (if needed) and organize your content. It also contains a blog to help you communicate with your peers on a regular basis. You can therefore create your content (or co-create it with others), organize it as you'd like, modify it, enhance it, communicate daily news, etc. You can also integrate widgets you find on the web, youtube videos, scribed documents, PDF files, etc...

Define Your Revenue Models

Once you have created the first version of your expert content, you need to define which revenue models you would like to use with your new online business. There are two possible levels currently available:

  • Monetize access to a Place: You can define a weekly, monthly or annual subscription revenue model or a limited time access revenue model.

  • Monetize access to a Page: You can also define payment patterns for specific pages. This pages can contain any information or document that you want to be accessible to paying members. There are three models currently available: Life-time page access, limited number of days, or limited number of times. Links that will drive your users to this pages will have a special symbol associated to the link to alert your members that there is a payment option associated to this page.

Invite Members you Know to Your Place

Once you've created premium content and defined your revenue models associated to it, you are then ready to invite members to enjoy it. During the invitation process, the default revenue model chosen will be automatically applied. This default revenue model is set within the preferences of your place. However, you can change this at any time, and you can customize it for specific members. For example, you may want to offer a special discount to a particular member. Our philosophy is to provide you the flexibility you need to adapt your revenue model to any particular situation.

The invited member will then receive an email inviting him or her to access your place. The first screen displayed will be a screen asking him/her to pay the amount required. Invited members also need to have their own Paypal account, or create one if none already exists. We currently support only Paypal, but we plan to add other forms of payment in the future.

Immediately after payment has been received, the invited member has access to the designated premium section of your place and will be able to navigate and participate to all aspects where you have given them access.

Place owners invited members can follow up at any time to track the status of their payments and access rights. The Place owner can access a "payment report" link at the top of his screen, and invited members have a "payment status" link available on their pages. This feature exists to help you track your member and help you do your accounting for your business. In the future, and based on user feedback, we plan to integrate this with common accounting software packages to make it even easier for you to grow and manage your online business.
